Environmental Sustainability at Scott Veterinary Clinic

The whole team at Scott veterinary clinic is committed to providing the most professional and compassionate care, whilst simultaneously minimising the environmental impact of our services.

We have a dedicated ‘Green team’ who oversee the implementation of initiatives aimed at reducing our use of natural resources and raw materials, optimising management of veterinary waste, encouraging responsible use of veterinary medicines and moving towards more sustainable products and policies.

Sustainability at Scotts

Over the last few years our ‘Green team’ have undertaken several initiatives to include:

– streamlining our waste management by improving recycling bin access and regular team training over waste segregation for disposal

– switching to cardboard rather than plastic pharmaceutical waste bins

– planting wildflowers in our practice garden

– installing an isoflurane (anaesthetic and potent greenhouse gas) capturing device in our main theatre

– organising ‘low flow’ anaesthesia training for the team to reduce our use of anaesthetic gases

– implementing a successful protocol for treatment of ear infections with antiseptic cleansers and anti-inflammatories, that has led to a 40% reduction in topical antibiotic prescribed

– creating a practice antibiotic policy and auditing our use of high priority critically important antibiotics which has led to a significant reduction in use

– committing to calculating an annual ‘carbon footprint’
